Review of The Wiz (1978) by Ladd W — 06 Feb 2008
Ugh... Why does this film make itself so hard to love? So let's start with the good. The sets are great, the songs are great (although too many and too often), and Nipsy Russell is superb as the Tin Man.
Unfortunately, the best parts of this film get bogged down by washout performances by Diana Ross, who mostly whines and squeals her way through her role, and songs that are sung to death then buried with the lid of the coffin nailed shut so they don't get out.
