Review of The Witch (2016) by Simon T — 16 Jan 2017
Imagine Terrence Malick were to direct a 17th century ghost story: it would probably be very similar to this unusual and truly beautiful effort. A New England family led by their God-fearing father (Ralph Ineson, excellent) are banished from their community and try to start a new life next to some woods.
Superstition and accusations increase as one by one each family member goes missing. The cinematography, music, performances and direction are wonderful. Only the often incomprehensible dialect muddies a riveting ghost story.
