Review of The Wings of the Dove (1997) by David A — 22 Apr 2010
Wings of a Dove is a slow drama. You really need to be in the right mood to appreciate this movie. Otherwise, you will fall asleep. I was in the right frame of mind when I saw it and enjoyed the movie.
It's more or less a love story gone wrong after a wealthy woman, who is in love with a "poor" writer, concocts an idea for him to seduce a wealthy friend of hers who is dying.
The problem, is that she drowns in her own jealousy caused by her own scheme because this dying friend is such a beautiful person. The acting is wonderful and filled with passion. I really enjoyed the scenes filmed in Venice.
I've always found period movies to be difficult but for the most part appreciated this one immensely. Lots of depth and development in the characters. But more importantly, a very well developed "complicated" sort of a story.
