Review of The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006) by Patrick T — 21 Mar 2008
An amazing movie... if I could think of another movie that would describe it's story, the only thing that comes to mind is Braveheart. My favorite foreign film I have seen so far. Amazing characters, amazing storyline, amazing cinematography, amazing setting. This movie is probably the most amazing film of 2006(7), it really should have won some oscars, though it wasn;t mainstream.
The story is set in the 1910's in Ireland, surrounding the uprising of the IRA and the aftermath of it's insurrection. Another film to compare it to is Gollipololi (yes, it was horrible), but the message it portrays is that war in and of itself has no meaning other to prove a pointless point. And that nationalism can turn families on eachother, when the strongest bonds in the world are blood and friendship... it was amazing. A must see for anyone with a soul.
