Complex and personal and appears to have a strongly realistic tone. The film fortunately did not dwell on the Black and Tan atrocities.
There are problems when the brothers go their separate way as the relationship is used as a heavy handed metaphor of the history of Ireland. However it remains compelling and is an eye-opening experince of how things once were.
