Review of The Wind That Shakes the Barley (2006) by Trevor H — 30 Mar 2013
A fine film by Ken Loach and certainly one of his best. Set in Ireland in the 1920s, it depicts the brutality of the British occupation and the seething resentment of the Irish at the occupation. Loach weaves the factual history into a story of two brothers who fight the Irish cause, but divide when one joins the Irish Free State, the puppet government created by the British.
An absorbing tale of love, loyalty and the nobility of fighting for a cause against illegal occupation.
