Ignorance is a steep hill with perilous rocks at the bottom.

An American woman and her son are kidnapped in Morocco by Berbers, lead by a great man named Mulai Ahmed er Raisuli. Raisuli's men kill the woman's husband but they do not believe in killing women and children. They use the hostages to send a message to President Roosevelt. As Roosevelt determines how he wants to rescue the woman and spin the incident to the public, the woman learns the ways of Raisuli and his people.

"Your tongue is clever and fast. Be careful you don't trip over it.".

John Milius, director of Conan the Barbarian, Red Dawn, Flight of the Intruder, Farewell to the King, Big Wednesday, and Dillinger, delivers The Wind and the Lion. The storyline for this picture is very intriguing and the action scenes were solid. I thought the script was very well written and the acting was excellent. The cast includes Sean Connery, Candice Bergen, Brian Keith, John Huston, Jeffrey Lewis, and Steve Kanaly.

"Why would anyone want to cut out another man's tongue?".

"Perhaps the owner had nothing pleasant to say.".

I DVR'd this movie off Turner Classic Movies (TCM) when I discovered it was a Sean Connery picture I had never heard of (add it to the list). I will say I love Sean Connery, his character, and how he was utilized in this picture. His lines were amazing. The overall film is just above average but the dynamic characters earn this picture a solid B grade.

"We have men that can do anything. Absolutely anything.".

Grade: B.
