Review of The Wild One (1953) by Matthew L — 21 Jul 2009
The Wild One, to me, is a young man's attempt to find himself but going about doing so in all the wrong ways. Marlon Brando gives a great performance as Johnny, a biker who will rebel against "whatever you got.
" Brando does an excellent job of showing the pain underneath the hard exterior. Somewhat lacking on plot (the film is essentially a party gone out of control), the subtext is what is important here, which is that being yourself is good but without control, anarchy and chaos reigns.
A revolutionary picture for the time it was released, and it still rings true today.
