The greatest western ever made. What Arthur Penn began with Bonnie and Clyde, Sam Peckinpah took to the next level. With four oscar winning actors (Holden, Borgnine, O'Brien, and Johnson) and action enough for me to use the phrase "savagely beautiful ballet of death" without shame or self-consciousness, The Wild Bunch remains the perfect metaphor for the death of American Idealism.
