Review of The Wild Bunch (1969) by Jack B — 19 Jun 2008
This film is, at points, astonishing. The brutality of Peckinpah's filmmaking is well known, but this film changed the rules of the game. The opening sequence is mesmerising and there are many subesquent moments of a similarly high quality.
With superb performances from William Holden and Robert Ryan, awesome photography and the tragic drama of a thousand deaths, many of which are shown in the trademark slow motion, and, despite the fact it could use some cutting, this film is a classic.
