Review of The Wild Bunch (1969) by Tristan G — 08 Aug 2009
Revolutionary. Gratuitous. Gripping. Just a few words that describe Sam Peckinpah's masterpiece dealing with a group of aging outlaws and the dying breed of the Old West. I'm not too big on Westerns, but after I saw this I was pleasantly surprised.
The violence in the film is plentiful, though it was not done in a way to glorify it, but rather to show horror and reality of it. I believe it was one of the first mainstream films to show such violence so vividly.
Acting is great, cinematography is even better. I enjoyed how the camera became the character's POV and the classic use of Slow-Mo. Enjoyable from start to finish.
