Review of The Wild Bunch (1969) by Mike M — 26 Jan 2010

I think Sam Peckinpah is a very good director. This movie is a masterpiece of storytelling carried by great classic actors who proved they could still perform at the age they were for this picture. The piece is directed very well, and the action scenes are distinctively shot.

I enjoyed the film overall, but at the same time I see what John Wayne meant when he said that this film destroyed the myth of the old west. Many battle scenes in this action-packed western are intense.

I'll admit I even jumped a few times during the movie. I see that Peckinpah wanted to make the western to end all westerns, with the cannons, explosions, blood and bodies. It's well-done.
