Review of The Wicker Man (1973) by Richard D — 10 Oct 2016
One of the best horror films of the 1970's (in fact, one of the best horror films period). It builds suspense by creating a vaguely unsettling atmosphere and building on the mystery plot to hammer it all home with a genuinely surprising and unsettling ending that is a logical extension of everything that has come before it.
The wonderful and unusual score and musical numbers peppered throughout heighten the unease. The Final Cut version rearranges a couple of scenes and inserts a couple of new ones. This version makes better sense of at least one critical plot point.
