Review of The Wedding Singer (1998) by Shawn L — 10 Aug 2010
One of my favorite comedies of all-time, and what I consider to be Adam Sandler's best movie. Unfortunately, I don't foresee him making a better comedy than this. But what a great movie this is. It spawned two classic soundtracks crushing the once-great Romy & Michelle's eighties selections, and proves to be one of those movies you can't stumble across on T.V. without watching a good 20 minutes of it.
"Now Get out of my Van Halen t-shirt before you jinx the band and they break up." What's greater than that? Maybe a lovable granny covering the Sugar Hill Gang, or a cute little kid saying, "You're a bitch." Or 2 great original songs by Sandler that cohesively mesh his brand of humor with the subtle hint of romantic comedy delivered by a spot-on Barrymore along with the slew of Sandler-movie regulars that all deliver great laughs. This movie is his masterpiece. #2 being Punch drunk love, and #3 being Reign over me, still his comedic side proves to be king to his dramatic side with the Wedding Singer.
