Review of The Wedding Guest (2019) by Tony1984 — 28 Mar 2021
One of the best Indian/Pakistani movies I've ever seen. Right up there with Slumdog Millionaire. It moves at a slow but consistent pace without dragging. It keeps you in suspense, not knowing whether it's a romance, a mystery, a thriller, or a sociological commentary.
What it does brilliantly is to portray India/Pakistan without being twee or excess slumming. The acting and casting are tremendous. The cinematography Oscar-worthy. No political viewpoint mercifully. Despite having a western director it doesn't have a single westerner in it, a welcome respite from the woke casting which is systemic these days.
It has a few flaws, none fatal but a solid 8/10 which I will mark 10 to compensate for the baffling low scores.
