Outstanding performances all around, The Way We Were has that sense of nostalgia of the relationship that almost worked. Barbara Streisand is yet again effortless in her way to wrap around the character and make the audience relate to her ways, and Robert Redford as the flaky guy who can't follow through and can't live up to any expectations and Streisand as the outlandish Katie who always believes in him and passionately about many things from the beginning, but hardly ever believes in their relationship.

It shows the importance someone takes in their public image and these people are just almost perfect for each other, but their not the right people, as displayed in the equally amazing (500) Days of Summer.

..Don't ever let down for what you believe, and don't let anyone get away with things that are unjust or rude, and most of all don't ever let down on love until you know it will never work out.

This movie is beautifully tragic but Redford and Streisand are cast perfectly and the Arthur Laurents screenplay is fabulous. Not to mention Sydney Pollack's nice directing. An interesting and unexpected romance! B+.
