Review of The Way We Were (1973) by Kyle M — 18 Oct 2014
Sydney Pollack's "The Way We Were" is a bit too ambitious, dealing with aspects of McCarthyism while attempting to examine the deteriorating marriage of a left-wing activist (Barbra Streisand) and a carefree capitalistic screenwriter (Robert Redford).
The political undertones are not explored as well as they could be, and the audience is left with a romantic tearjerker. Thankfully, Streisand and Redford are more than capable of handling all of this with aplomb.
