Review of The Wasp Woman (1959) by Richard S — 24 Oct 2010
Essentially a movie about an aging cosmetics company owner and spokeswoman who turns to a mad, yet benevolent scientist who's developed an anti-aging formula by experimenting on wasp royal jelly. This results in her turning into a ravenous, carnivorous were-wasp at night, but only near the end.
There are some bright spots in the film. Susan Cabot as the main character and Michael Mark as the mad scientist are both fun to watch and the actual Wasp Woman outfit is hilariously awful. Unfortunately, the middle part of the movie just drags on and on as the focus shifts to three boring employees of the cosmetics company that are trying to figure out what's going on.
Not without its charms, but still not a very good movie.
