Review of The Warriors (1979) by Guy G — 09 Jul 2011
[65/C+] A very competent and gripping low-fi action thriller, based upon the Anabasis by Xenophon, that successfully creates a lurid New York midnight populated by violent, tribal street gangs in bizarre motley, and through which one brave gang (the titular Warriors) must journey against all odds in order to reach the safety of their home turf.
A little absurd in conception, and barely able to articulate ideas or words, the movie wins on its taut simplicity of form and desperately primal emotions. Entertaining, and worthy of its cult popularity.
