Review of The Warriors (1979) by Brendan N — 24 Nov 2017
I have enjoyed watching this film ever since it was introduced to me back in high school. The film has a unique style and while it is simplistic at heart story wise, it is light years ahead of a lot of modern films.
Walter Hill crafted what is one of the greatest cult films ever made, the relentless dark tone and the threat at any moment. I caught this on the big screen last night and you must admit the brilliance of a film with care and ambition.
You could see this being remade but the setting must stay the same, it would struggle to convert into the modern era. I would ignore the directors cut version and thankfully it was not the version they played and I managed to find the original DVD as well.
This is a film you watch with your son when they are old enough, just a cool film that has lived on from the original negative perception. You could only wish Hollywood could revert back to this style of filmmaking.
