Review of The War of the Worlds (1953) by Kevin R — 12 Mar 2015
The Martians can take the Earth in six days.
One day the inhabitants of Mars need a new home and the Earth looks like a lovely pit stop. They send a group of Martian war ships and begin their invasion. Initially, the humans aren't sure of the nature of the alien's arrival, but it quickly becomes apparent. Do the humans have any chance against the intergalactic invaders?
"I will dwell in the house of the lord forever.".
Byron Haskin, director of Treasure Island, Long John Silver, Conquest of Space, From the Earth to the Moon, Captain Sinbad, and Robinson Crusoe on Mars, delivers War of the Worlds. The storyline for this picture follows the classic closely and is fun to watch unfold. The special effects are dated but fun and the cast delivers solid performances. The cast includes Gene Barry, Ann Robinson, Les Tramayne, Henry Brandon, and Jack Kruschen.
"Is that a fireball or something?".
I have seen this many times, and was surprised I had never written a review for this gem. This movie is not perfect, but a well done classic science fiction picture that is worth a viewing and borderline worth adding to your science fiction DVD collection. This is an all time great that should be watched annually.
"Welcome to California.".
