Review of The Wailing (2016) by Aïko G — 11 Feb 2017
The Wailing is a complex but satisfying horror movie. It brings an amazing story coated in a typical Korean "movie sauce". We follow a clumsy police officer in a small, quiet village who above all likes to do as less as possible.
But when some horrifying murders shake up the town, our police officer is drawn right in the middle of it. After investigating and ultimately finding nothing but questions, the officer's own daughter becomes a victim of the strange things happening to people in the village.
From there on the movie follows the police officer on his desperate search for a cure and introduces a couple of strange characters. In the end you are wondering who these strange and mysterious characters are and how they connect to each other and the police officer's family.
The story of The Wailing is amazing and it has been a while since I had to really stay with a movie and re-think it afterwards to make sense of it all. Amazing movie, marvelous story and overall one of the best horror movies I have ever seen.
