Review of The Void (2016) by Nebulous125 — 18 Apr 2017
After seeing praise compare this movie to The Thing and Hellraiser, I was extremely excited to see a practical special effects horror movie. But I'm afraid to say, this film is nothing like its predecessors and will eventually be forgotten as another mediocre horror film.
The acting is serviceable, not great, but it's really the special effects we came here to see, and they are nothing compared to the genius of what Rob Botin did in The Thing. Darkness and flashing strobe lights are used to hide the prosthetics, and even then you just can't tell what you're looking it, it's just a blob of something fast edited.
The plot itself is good, but there's no scary stuff here, not really, it's just a shadow of what it could have been. I have to recommend skipping it.
