The main focus was clearly the practical effects over plot substance and acting which was mediocre at best and convoluted beyond belief. There were so many nonsensical moments just for sheer shock value, even though they had great practical effects on a low budget.
Overall this was a let down after reading and seeing so many great reviews claiming it to be a Carpenter style horror throwback. It was really nothing more than practical effect monsters and gore.
