Review of The Visit (2015) by Jeffrey T — 10 Jan 2016
M. Night made a brilliant comeback with this fun and creepy movie. It's not difficult to figure out what's what; but, I had a blast watching it unfold. The casting is brilliant. The precocious, odd in a good way, sister and little brother duo; I had a grin on my face without even knowing it, watching the dynamics.
The kids are near prodigy in film making, film genre, and theatrics. Tyler, the little brother, is especially engaging. Nana and Pop Pop, characters perfectly played. Kathryn Hahn is good in every film, I've ever seen her in.
She provided me with the 'this must be a film worth a watch' OnDemand cred. Shyamalan is genius, but he has underwhelmed me with films following 6th Sense. He scores big points with me with The Visit.
I may need to add that I was a big fan of Cabin in the Woods; unrelated to M. Night; but similar in the blend of eerie, creepy, unexpected and fun. Again, this movie is perfectly cast. I'm rewatching it again tonight.
I can't get over those kids.
