Review of The Virgin Suicides (2000) by Lindsey A — 14 Oct 2009
I really liked the acting in this one. I love movies with titles one has to figure out... are they actually virgins? The Lisbon sisters aren;t supposed to be virgins in the literal, sexual sense, but they are virgins of life, maturity, and experience.
I remember my teen years well, (I guess they weren't really that long ago...) and I identify with the likening of a modern (1970s) mid-western American family and their behavior with "Virgin Suicides," something more akin to that which is primeval, tribal, socially undeveloped.
I think this film is full of meaning, and one must really watch this movie to figure it out. But that's easier said than done. While full of promising interest, some scenes are too sleepy and too abstract, unfortunately to the point of being boring.
I recommend it once, but don't see it as a big permanent collection piece.
