Review of The Virgin Suicides (2000) by Cory B — 14 Dec 2010
It's good, but it's so incredibly half-baked. None of the characters are developed enough, which leads to no emotional connection. There was no flow at all... so many different styles converged; voiceover, narration, flashback, dream sequences.
.. it was a mess. Very poor editing... no solid rhythm and no direction. The dialogue mostly sucked, but I loved the casting, the story, and the look of period setting. In anyone else's hands, it would have been a masterpiece.
In Sofia Coppola's hands, it was mediocre.
