Review of The Virgin Spring (1960) by Metta C — 21 Jul 2007
Based on a Swedish folk-song, this Bergmans most violent unflinching film. It blew me away. Its a timeless story, stunningly & poetically told. An angelic virgin is slayed & the fathers (Max Von Sydows)bloody revenge is just as gruesome.
& as ever Bergman questions (albeit subtlely) the existence of god.
