Review of The Virgin Spring (1960) by Rocknblues 8 — 07 Oct 2009
I got to admit that this is my first Bergman movie ever. I'm not big on religion, but I love this film. The performances are outstanding and this has to be one of the main creators for the revenge flicks. Sometimes things happen in the world that leaves us to question how god could allow some of the brutality to go on. Herr Tore (Max von Sydow) has this experience when his daughter (Who is basically a symbol of purity) is brutality raped by what seems to be 2 pure evil men.
The rape scene is not easy to watch, but it's a pleasant film to watch overall and it's not a bad start if you're looking to get into foreign films. With movies like this, I will surely look toward more foreign movies in the future.
