Review of The Vanishing of Sidney Hall (2018) by Sankya — 11 Mar 2018
The critical panning of this film intrigued me enough to watch it and I was pleasantly surprised that The Vanishing of Sidney Hall has a lot of heart. True enough it relies on many cliches and tropes of the 'writer film' genre, but it worked more often than it did not.
I enjoyed that it wore its heart on its sleeve and was reminded of the smaller production films of the early to mid 2000s that thrived until being totally annihilated by the odious studio system that dominates today.
This isn't a perfect film but it most certainly is not the utter failure described by out-of-touch critics who view everything through the lens of political correctness. According to the reviewers this film had too much 'toxic masculinity' in it or something.
