Review of The Valet (2006) by Annetta K — 15 Jul 2006
La Doublure (aka The Valet), France, 2006, by Francis Veber.
Starring: Gad Elmaleh, Alice Taglioni, Daniel Auteil, Virginie Ledoyen, Kristin Scott Thomas.
Saw this on Sunday as part of current International Film Festival. Very similar in style to Francis' previous films: Tais-toi! (aka Ruby & Quentin), Le Placard (aka the Closet), Le diner de cons (aka the Dinner Game), etc etc.
I happen to like all these films for their light humour. This one was a little predictable and not as original as the Dinner Game, but still enjoyable.
Kristin Scott Thomas' spoken french was quite good! She appeared as the adulterous husband's wife.
Incidentally, I guess the English title was changed from the literal french translation for La Doublure which is "the Stand-in" or "Body Double" because these titles have already been used for english language films. The Valet is translated into french as "la Voiturier" (as written on the car valet's uniforms in the film).
