Review of The Valet (2006) by Aparna I — 11 Mar 2010
Can the person responsible for The Dinner Game and who had a hand in La Cage Aux Folles go 3 for 3 with The Valet? Answer: no. This was more of a foul ball. Veber makes contact but doesn't quite have enough to recreate the success of his other two big films.
This was a cute and funny movie. The actors sufficiently delivered their roles and drew you into their lives. But that's where it ended. The way their lives were connected seemed like a farce that only the French could enjoy.
By my American standards, it just didn't add up and the humor was forced. When compared to the successful Dinner Game and La Cage Auz Folles, this just didn't deliver to that calibre of expectation.
It is a lite version of those two works, so it is enjoyable. It just was not as captivating as them. Maybe it was just a case of right lot, wrong car......
