Review of The Upside of Anger (2005) by E F — 31 Oct 2008
Actually, the main reason I wanted to watch this movie was that I read it was set in Bloomfield Hills. But the truth is, I guess it was shot in London, and there are no noticeable landmarks from BH in the film.
As far as the film, the first thing that stands out is that, for being made by a male director, it seems to have a strong focus on the female perspective, through the lead character and her daughters. As far as my review of the film, it was not awful, but nor was it great. From what I gather, the moral of the film is that anger can make you grow as a person, but it seemed that it was more the protagonist's overcoming her anger problem that allowed her to grow. Plus, she's so moody that she goes from angry to happy to sad in a matter of seconds, I don't know if it's about anger as much as it is about confused feelings. Anyway, I think it's typical proverbial "heartfelt drama" about a woman overcoming heartbreak, with a slight twist at the end.
