Review of The Untouchables (1987) by Liam C — 15 Jan 2014
Brian De Palma strikes again with another amazing film! I really enjoyed it and the time flew by, I was interested and wanted to see Capone brought down. The style was great, the music was outstanding and the film was solid.
I only have a couple of complaints the acting seemed a little off in parts and the group seemed like an odd choice. The acting felt weird to me because Costner seemed very muted and dumbed down, I like Kevin Costner and think he is really great but here he just felt really off which confuses me because just a mere 3 years later a film he makes sweeps the Oscars with a very committed role by Costner, De Niro felt very over the top and Connery seemed very aggressive.
Now, I'm aware this is based off of a true story but films always like to stretch the truth but if this is how the real people acted, then I'm not to argue. Connery was great however, I can see why he got an Oscar and I'm glad he did, although out of his impressive body of work he got it for this? At least he got it! Like I said, I also didnt like the group or felt it to be a little unbelievable, again, I'm aware this is based on a true story but even in real life a group of four with a nerdy guy as one of them it seemed like the whole thing was just going to be a failure.
That being said, I didn't analyse it all that much and I did enjoy it but it shows its age.
