Review of The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1988) by Lynda M — 25 Jan 2010
For a Hollywood picture of the day the sex must have been edgy. It's shooting style I'm not taken with, it seems a tad staged, but the content is king. It's a fascinating effort to capture the spirit of an "unfilmable" novel These are people in the midst of political and emotional upheaval, and the journey has the heft of literature.
Binoche is a little drippy and less sexy in English, Olin and Day-Lewis fairly smoulder however. A couple of clunky moments but well worth watching.
