Review of The Two Jakes (1990) by Tara H — 23 Dec 2008
Sequel to the classic film noir, Chinatown, directed by and starring Jack Nicholson. Without the artistry of Roman Polanski, this was never going to match the original masterpiece - not even close. Nonetheless, for Chinatown fans at least, it is worth seeing.
The plot is intriguing, and Meg Tilly and Harvey Keitel both give good performances. At times the pace is plodding and the execution mundane, but it has some beguiling moments and is essentially a curious footnote to a pivotal moment in Hollywood history.
