Review of The Tree of Life (2011) by Fábio T — 21 Aug 2012
I shouldn't rate this because it's not really a film, in a traditional sense.
It's more like a trip, and experience( and a good one).
The tree of life is a step forward for the medium, it breaks and challenges the assumptions of what cinema ought to be.
A masterpiece in storytelling and gives you the freedom to interpret and complete this intricate( and sometimes illogical) puzzle.
I think that the infamous scenes people criticize have a purpose.
When you are parent, your life revolves around your kid.
When you lose a child, a part of you is taken away.
The death o a single person is going to affect several lives for many years,.
But in the grand scheme of things it is meaningless.
The universe is not going to grief the life of a child.
Many species lived on this planet, many became extinct.
The universe was created a fucking long time ago...
But we are selfish and value humanity in favor of other creatures( though that's not a bad thing).
I think that the tree of life is all about contrast and the duality of concepts.
Human existence is important and meaningless at the same time.
