Review of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) by Ivan D — 14 Nov 2008
Superb character study involving three gold prospectors where one is slowly going insane because of greed. Walter Huston and Tim Holt's performances was flawless, but the real star performer of the film is none other than the top-billed Mr.
Bogart himself. Hiis portrayal of Fred Dobbs was so realistic, you can relate to his every move, perhaps even to yourself. The paranoid tension was perfectly implied to the whole picture, making the "greed" theme even more compelling.
"Sierra Madre" have its fair share of flaws, but the performances, story, and a great musical score made it an entertaining, but at the same time, spiritually, and emotionally challenging film.
