Review of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) by Chris B — 26 Jul 2017
Filled with dazzling performances, an action filled and exciting script and a Director who films it all and made it one of the greatest American films of all time! AFI ranks "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" at #38 in the Greatest American Films of all Time and for a reason.
From start to finish the film pulls the viewer in and doesn't let go, adding twists and turns with each passing minute. John Huston's direction is superb and he pulls a stunning performance out of his father Walter Huston.
Humphrey Bogart is no slouch but his character is definitely not the most friendly, yet Bogart manages to display the greatest versatility and range. As for the likable Howard played by Walter Huston, not only does he give soul and realism to the film but also a firm and moral disposition.
"The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" may come off a little dated, especially by today's audience, the heart and message at the core remains timeless! A masterpiece that has easily earned its place as a true American Classic!
