Review of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948) by Zack F — 01 Sep 2011
A classic that shows you it's worth in history as it goes. Although the movie takes place in Mexico, it maintains a very American movie with some very American themes like prosperity and questionable loyalty.
The performances are all on top of the game with Huston exceling as a crackpot of an experienced prospector with a strong sense of humor in the situation. Humprey Bogart maintains his tough man appeal with classical aspects of masculinity until he makes his stirring and unsettling transformation into a greed and paranoia struck man.
This is one of the best stories of morals vs. society ever.
