Review of The Transformers: The Movie (1986) by Dave M — 24 Jan 2009
So good, and so all-encompassing of the Transformers mythos that it became canon. It did not shy away from violence or death, giving a whole new depth to the cartoon, and, indeed, a darker direction for the entire franchise.
An all-star cast gave tremendous voice acting and the most powerful villain ever conceived in movies, along with (quite literally) one heck of a deus ex machina make this one of the greatest cartoon films ever made.
EDIT. Upon further review...the music was horrible. I mean, worst of the possible worst cheesy 80s...down to Weird Al Yankovic's 'Dare To Be Stupid'. I only wish I was kidding. At the time, however, I'm sure it was pretty awesome, although I don't know anyone who has the soundtrack.
