Review of The Train (1964) by Simon K — 18 Jun 2007
What a film. Lengthy but rewarding, a richly textured, tight-scripted gem of a story. As the Nazis crumble at the end of the war, a single driven general struggles to see a train filled with a cargo of priceless French artworks back to Berlin.
This story of the resistance, and the meaning of national pride, and the sacrifices made for it, is astonishing.
