Review of The Time Machine (1960) by Scott S — 16 Jan 2011
The Time Machine (1960) -- [6.0] -- Rod Taylor plays H.G. Wells' famous time traveller in George Pal's adaptation of "The Time Machine." The screenplay gets heavy-handed with its anti-war message and Taylor's relationship with Weena (Yvette Mimieux) comes off terribly one-dimensional, but the film pays off in Taylor's showpiece rebellion against the Morlocks and his warm interactions with friends in the film's bookends.
"The Time Machine" deserves special mention for helping to elevate sci-fi out of its 1950s low-budget confines, providing a stepping stone toward later milestones in the genre, including "Planet of the Apes" and "Star Wars.
