Review of The Tillman Story (2010) by Jennifer L — 12 Mar 2011
Interesting. Pat Tillman was a great guy, it seems, in just about every way imaginable. Hard working athlete, patriot, married his childhood sweetheart, and walks away from millions to serve his country.
His family has every right to be angry, and the way - at least according to this movie - they were treated is hard to watch. But for a guy who didn't want his death to be used as propaganda, it's kind of weird that a documentary is made about him.
I'm also curious why his brother, Kevin, did not appear in the movie. Understandable that he wouldn't want to appear. The ending gets to be a bit too "conspiracy theory" for me, though.
Was Tillman's death mishandled? Sure. But I can see why a bunch of higher ups would not have known much about it. They were working overtime too on tons of stuff. To me, the reality of the errors is damning enough, so there's no need to go beyond what's clear.
But then, that is the flaw of many documentaries.
