I'm not at all a big fan of the 3 musketeers tale and personally, I believe there have already been way too many films made from Dumas' classic, BUT I am a fan of Paul WS Anderson. He's done a terrific job with THE THREE MUSKETEERS.
Unlike most film versions, Anderson doesn't aim for high wit. He sticks to action with some bodice ripping fun, and it all works. This isn't brilliant by any stretch but it's a fun time at the movies.
And the film looks amazing! Beautiful costumes and stunning sets (Germany stands in for France). The whole cast is game and clearly having a good time with the exception of Logan Lerman as D'Artagan.
He's far too American and lacks the screen presence to pull this off which is too bad. He throws things off far too much at times but then comes the especially wonderful Freddie Fox as Louis XIII.
He's a revelation! Go see the THREE and have fun-nothing more, nothing less.
