Review of The Three Lives of Thomasina (1963) by Anna B — 14 Jan 2012
I do find this movie rather bizarre. Far from being a quirky children's film, it actually deals with loss, rejection and prejudice. The prejudice comes both in the form of townspeople fearful of change and science, and the stereotypically evil gypsies that seemingly come from no where in the last act.
I really like the romance between the doctor and the witch, especially since it was mostly shown through changes in her wardrobe and his acceptance of her scarf. I also liked the scene where Thomasina is hallucinating, but I'm sure there is another cut where she has further hallucinations.
I would have also liked a reconciliation scene between the doctor and his daughter, because as it stands the ending feels rushed.
