Review of The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005) by Josh P — 19 Dec 2007
WHAT WORKED:
Very impressive directorial debut for Tommy Lee Jones. Brings to mind some of the better work of the Coen brothers. Potentially boring plot is made interesting with quirky deadpan characters, dry humor, and a genuinely thought-provoking message. Jones is also perfect as the main character.
WHAT SUCKED:
Storytelling methods are inconsistent - first half uses a completely different editing style than the second half. Some subplots seem unnecessary.
