Review of The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005) by Dan O — 16 Nov 2012
Nothing short of sensational... Tommy Lee Jones succeeds with flying colors in his directorial debut with this darkly comedic oddball contemporary western. This is a savage film, clothed with heart and humor, and it hits directly at our emotional core without getting too pretentious or selling itself short.
Though grounded and minimal, this is a beautiful film with it's stark and lonely imagery accompanied by an amazing story and cast. To me, this is a very important film, as it attempts to be something a lot of films of its kind stay away from - it attempts to be spiritual and succeeds.
It truly is a haunting and spiritual experience with humor and beauty to spare.
