Review of The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005) by Steven B — 22 Mar 2009
The kind of project that usually attracts actors-cum-directors, this pic is a performance showcase that is inevitably too subtle for its own good. And Tommy Lee simply doesn't have the directorial chops to fill all that negative space.
Bleak and unrewarding, though wonderfully performed, "3 Burials..." never bothers to solve its central dilemma: why was Estrada worth all the trouble? (Again, Levon Helm was AWESOME!).
