Review of The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) by Cheryl D — 30 Jul 2008
They just don't make movies like this anymore. I know, I know. But it's wonderful. Especially the scene where Faye Dunaway and Steve McQueen play chess and he just doesn't know where to look when he should be looking at the chessboard.
As a morality tale (which it isn't) it is delicately handled, with a perfect ending - that also would be hard put to find a place in today's movies. The ending is nuanced and it's left wide open - like Steve McQueen's line of defense on and off the chessboard.
